Red Deer Called on to Join the Movement of Giving

Donations being collected on Giving Tuesday

Red Deer, Alberta (November 16, 2020) Red Deer residents are invited to join the Giving Tuesday movement on Tuesday, December 1, 2020. The movement, which is in its eighth year, is a global collective of more than 150 countries who call businesses, charities, and communities to come together to create positive impact.

“This is a particularly important year for Red Deer to join the movement of giving,” Pam Snowdon, Executive Director of Volunteer Central said. “By pulling together we are illustrating the significance of community, while teaching our youth the importance of philanthropy and working to solve urgent problems.”

On Tuesday, Dec. 1, Volunteer Central, Turning Point and the Red Deer & District Community Foundation will be hosting a donation drive to collect personal hygiene items for the vulnerable sector of our community.

Items being collected include:

  • Small packages of tissue
  • Travel size toothpaste
  • Tooth brushes
  • Unused masks
  • Hand and foot warmers
  • warm socks
  • mitts and gloves
  • touques
  • Gift cards of $5 to easily accessible food and coffee establishments
  • Wipes
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Large ziplock bags

“It is important that the donations are travel sized because the individuals receiving these packages do not have the ability to store large objects,” Snowdon explained. “This is the perfect opportunity to donate the hotel toiletries you may have collected on your previous journeys.”

Donations will be accepted between 9:30 am – 5 pm on Tues., Dec. 1, at the Scott Block Theatre, located on Little Gaetz in Downtown Red Deer. Alberta Health Services  guidelines will be strictly followed to protect the well-being of donors, volunteers, staff, and community members.
