The Smiles Thru Lindsey Women in Aviation Award is a $1000 Bursary.

This is a $1,000 scholarship for girls interested in a career in aviation in honour of Lindsey More.

As a little girl, Lindsey More dreamed of becoming a pilot when she grew up. She loved going to air shows, watching airplanes take off and land at the airport with her dad, and was even given words of encouragement from Rosella Bjornson to follow her dreams after meeting her at the Reynolds Museum. Years later, after graduating high school, she was making her dream come true by enrolling with Sky Wings Aviation Academy to obtain her private pilot license. With her good friend and brother-in-law, Marshall, as her instructor, everything was going according to planned. Unfortunately, what many of her friends and family didn’t know, was her struggle with depression.

On September 20th, 2015, just weeks before her private pilot exam, Lindsey took her life. Shortly after, her family created the Smiles Thru Lindsey Foundation to help spread suicide awareness and educate youth in Central Alberta on their mental health. To date, with the help of the amazing community, Smiles Thru Lindsey has raised over $600,000 in which $88,000 has gone towards education programs for students and teachers and most recently, the development of the Centre for Excellence.

Her dream of becoming a pilot may not have come true, but her legacy will carry on through this scholarship.
