Myrtle Beaulieu
Myrtle Beaulieu is a Metis woman passionate about preserving her culture. She is a grandmother, sister, and friend. She is a social worker and an employment counsellor with a certification in career development. She has served as a chairperson for the Sylvan Lake Victim Service Unit, often meeting people on the hardest day of their lives. She has contributed countless volunteer hours to groups such as “Walking with our Sisters,” which won the Mayor’s Special Award for the City of Red Deer in 2016, and she belongs to the Red Feather Women, a group that focuses on social justice. Myrtle has an adventurous side and recently took up riding a motorcycle, and loves hiking and canoeing when she can find time to get out.
Angela Hall
As a dance teacher at Dance Magic studio for 11 years, Ang Hall has inspired hundreds of people of all ages and abilities to discover new heights of self-confidence, kindness and grace in the studio, in the community and in the world. Ang plants and nurtures the seeds of dance and leadership in her students, while cultivating in others an appreciation for the art to be found in the natural world. In addition to raising her young children and teaching dance, her other passion project is Meadow Farm Flowers, a local sustainable flower business she started with her business partner, Ashlea. Ang has truly transformed many lives in Central Alberta by connecting people to the joy of dance and to the beauty of nature.
Ashley Jackson
Ashley Jackson is a driven and creative entrepreneur with 9 years experience in photography. Body liberation has become a main focus within her business, and she welcomes female identifying individuals to explore their relationship with their body through photographic art. Ashley spear headed the Food is Fun Social Media Campaign (#womeneatingfood) to bring awareness to disordered eating, and she is the recipient of the 2020 Ruby Award through Soroptimist Central Alberta, which honours women who have worked to improve the lives of women and girls through their professional and/or volunteer work. In addition to raising her three daughters, Ashley is a proud supporter of many associations, including the Malala Fund, Dress for Success, Red Deer Hospice, United Way of Central Alberta, A Better World Canada, as well as hosting multiple fundraisers in her community.
Carol Johnston
Carol’s early start to volunteering helped her recognize the positive benefits volunteering made in her life and in the lives of others. Her passion for arts and culture provided the impetus to volunteering with the Edmonton Music Festival, forming a Band Parent Association and coordinating the Kiwanis Club’s fundraising campaign to purchase seats for the Trans Canada Theatre. To foster a culture of performing arts in Olds, Carol initiated the formation of the Olds Kiwanis Performing Arts Society and served as it’s Program Director for eleven years. When Carol isn’t booking concerts, she is serving on the Boards of the Mountain View Emergency Shelter Society, The Olds Kiwanis Music Festival and the Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta.
Laurie Maetche
Laurie Maetche loves teaching and promoting enthusiasm for music. She encourages others to reach for their potential, and this ensures she has a full teaching studio throughout the year. Having attained a Bachelor of Arts in 2011 with a focus on violin and viola performance, she is now challenging herself to finish her piano performance. Laurie started teaching music privately as a teenager and has been able to mentor hundreds of students over her ongoing career of more than 35 years. She can’t conceive of a more rewarding career than what she has done and is continuing to do.
Marlene Palamarek
Marlene Palamarek strives to connect with her clients to bring out the qualities that sometimes become hidden through life’s experiences. Marlene is well known for her ability to capture the true essence of childhood and the beauty of the moment. Specializing in maternity, family, child graduation and boudoir photography, she is a multi-award winning member of the Professional Photographers of Canada since 2007 and has received national accreditations in Senior Graduation, Figure Study, Boudoir, Maternity, Newborn, Canine, Portrait, Environmental Portrait, and Child Portrait. In March of 2019 she achieved her Craftsman of Photographic Arts designation.
